Art Enrichment

Join the PTO Art Enrichment Team!

At JBE, we know that art education enhances traditional learning by fostering creative thinking and problem-solving skills. It promotes the development of fine motor skills and can improve academic performance across various subjects.

Each homeroom classroom at JBE needs (at least) one volunteer to facilitate fun, monthly art lessons for the students. This volunteer works with the homeroom teacher to coordinate the date and time of each lesson.

Lessons are typically 45 minutes long.

Project ideas are emailed to volunteers monthly and are typically inspired by the cultural heritage month calendar. Volunteers are welcome to utilize these ideas or come up with their own projects.

The Art Enrichment Team has a closet of shared art supplies available to check out and use for lessons.

*Volunteers must be at least a level one DCPS registered volunteer.

To volunteer, please email fojbeartenrichment@gmail.com.

Cultural Appreciation

The purpose of our Cultural Appreciation is to recognize various cultures represented within our school and beyond. It is designed to bring awareness as well as to celebrate and appreciate differences. Each month a different culture will be recognized. Parents of different cultures are welcome to speak with students in their child’s class about their culture. Teams can be used for virtual presentations, if virtual is more convenient for presenters.

The goals of multicultural education include:

  • Creating a safe, accepting, and successful learning environment for all.

  • Increasing awareness of global issues.

  • Strengthening cultural consciousness.

  • Strengthening intercultural awareness.

  • Teaching students that there are multiple historical perspectives.

  • Encouraging critical thinking.

  • Preventing prejudice and discrimination.
