No family should have to face difficult times alone.
Community Cares is a partnership between the JBE PTO and our school guidance department that provides short-term assistance to JBE families experiencing financial or unexpected hardships.
In addition to providing emergency assistance, Community Cares helps connect families with available school district and community resources, ensuring they receive the support they need both now and in the future. Every request is handled with care, respect, and complete confidentiality.
How does Community Cares Work?
A family is referred or applies for support through our school team.
Our team evaluates the needs and connects the family with support, resources, and/or community partners.
Resources and support are provided quickly and confidentially.
A New Program, Already Making a Difference
Launched in November 2025, JBE Community Cares has quickly become a meaningful source of short-term support and connection for JBE families facing unexpected hardships. Through PTO funding, generous donors, and trusted community partners, families have received timely help while being connected with resources for longer-term support.
Help Stock the JBE School Clinic
The school clinic keeps a small supply of clothing for students who unexpectedly need a change of clothes during the school day. You can donate a requested clothing item or contribute $5 toward purchasing one in the needed size.
Physical donations should be new or freshly laundered, school-appropriate, and free of stains, tears, holes, or significant wear. Underwear must be new and unopened. Please bring donations to the front office and let Ms. Lucon know they are for the school clinic.
How You Can Help
JBE Community Cares depends on caring families, local businesses, and community partners who are willing to help when a need arises. By joining our supporter list, you can choose the types of requests you are open to receiving, without committing to every opportunity.
Support may include providing gift cards, donating needed items, helping with seasonal food drives, sharing professional services, or connecting us with trusted community resources. Your contact information will be kept internal and used only to coordinate Community Cares opportunities.
How can Community Cares help support JBE families?
-

We offer short-term assistance as funding and community partnerships allow.
-

We partner with trusted DCPS and community programs to connect families with essential resources.
-

We strengthen our community by hosting outreach drives and ensure no family has to walk alone.
Community Cares provides support in a variety of ways, including:
Grocery, gas, and retail gift cards
Assistance with school-related expenses
Emergency financial assistance for essential needs
Connecting families with Duval County Public Schools resources, including the School Social Worker and Full Service Schools program
Referrals to community organizations that provide additional support
Coordinating seasonal outreach efforts, including the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
Other short-term assistance as funding and community partnerships allow
Because every family's situation is unique, support is personalized whenever possible. Gift cards are our primary form of assistance because they allow families to purchase what they need most while preserving privacy and dignity.
Beyond Immediate Assistance
Sometimes the greatest need isn't financial assistance; it's knowing where to turn.
Community Cares works alongside the JBE Guidance Department to connect families with trusted school district and community resources, including:
School Social Worker services
Full Service Schools
Community assistance programs
Local nonprofit organizations
Other resources based on each family's unique situation
Our goal is not only to provide immediate relief but also to help families access longer-term support whenever possible.
